Gravensteen
This formidable 12th century medieval castle has been beautifully restored and is still partially surrounded by the moat. Today it is a museum about
the history of prison life with an interesting collection of medieval instruments of torture.
St. Baafskathedraal & The Belfry
The late Gothic cathedral contains several paintings by Rubens and Bosch, but the icing on the cake is one of the
world's great art treasures, Anthony Van Dyck's stunning 20-panel altarpiece, Adoration of the Mystic Lamb; the views
from the 14th century belfry are breath-taking.
Patershol
The cobbled streets of this pretty area are packed with history, as well as some great restaurants.
Design Museum
A great range of decorative arts, dating from the 17th century to the modern day, undoubtedly the best design museum in Flanders.

Canal Trip
Touristy it may be, but between April and late October, it's well worth taking a half-hour trip along the canals of
Ghent to admire the city's many listed buildings. Alternatively, jump on the Kroegentocht for a four-hour cruise of the city's canal-side bars.
