Cool Leuven

As is so often the case wherever you are in the world, what is cool in Leuven is its "hidden" side.

Check into B&B Keyser Carel, which was previously an old monastery and has truly palatial interiors, along with a huge private garden, or the Klooster Hotel, tucked away down a quiet little street, which is housed in a 16th century building that used to be the home of Emperor Charles V's secretary. Both make the perfect base for exploring the city, as well as being welcoming sanctuaries at the end of the day.

Wander through the streets, many of which are pedestrianised, finding not only beautiful architectural gems, but also some great little shops. Mechelsestraat is tucked away from the main streets; it's here that you will find Profiel, which focuses on selling the work of Belgian designers such as Dries van Noten, Kaat Tilley and Chine, as well as individual boutiques selling linens, gifts and speciality cheeses.
